Job Summary:
The Kitchen Helper is responsible for assisting the culinary team with food preparation, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen. This role supports the chefs and cooks in delivering high-quality food in a hygienic and organized environment.
Job Responsibility
- Assist with basic food preparation tasks, including washing, peeling, chopping, and cutting fruits, vegetables, and other ingredients as instructed.
- Receive, unload, and properly store incoming kitchen supplies and deliveries, ensuring proper rotation of stock.
- Operate and maintain dish washing equipment, ensuring all dishes, utensils, pots, and pans are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen areas, including work surfaces, floors, walls, equipment, and storage areas.
- Empty trash cans and transport waste to designated disposal areas.
- Clean and organize refrigerators, freezers, and dry storage areas.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of food service stations and buffets.
- Adhere to all food safety, hygiene, and health regulations and standards.
- Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and communicate needs to the Kitchen Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
Qualifications:
- No formal education required; High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment is a plus, but not required.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions effectively.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
- Basic understanding of kitchen hygiene and food safety practices is an advantage.
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry heavy items (up to 50 pounds) for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity to handle kitchen tools and equipment safely.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures, including hot kitchen environments and cold storage areas.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced, dynamic kitchen environment with exposure to heat, cold, noise, and cleaning chemicals.
- Requires adherence to strict safety and hygiene protocols.
